Straggling for charity
27 Sep 2004
After the adrenalin of last week-end at the Nationals and while numerous club members were out training with the multitude of GB squads the Batchworth Stragglers sought further excitement and pain by entering a local charity 10k run.
The race, organised on behalf of the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre for cancer support & information at Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood, took place in and around Moor Park and the Moor Park golf club, starting nice and flat but leading deceptively on to a rather unpleasant hill through the golf course.
As usual Ian straggled home first (of our bunch) in around 43 minutes closely followed by Matt in 45 minutes then Steve at 48 minutes with "honorary member for the day" Matthew in 49 minutes. Not a bad effort by one and all - and all in a good cause too.
Unfortunately, despite much beer talking the night before, Rob was noticeable by his absence (don't worry Rob, we'll find a nice half marathon for you to make up for it!).
