Worcester wake up call!
22 Aug 2005
Batchworth succumbed to a potent Amathus team at the Worcester race course over the week-end. Noticeable apathy seems to be taking the blame for a 200m race where we never really seemed to be in contention. However much use of proverbial kicks up back-sides and lots of use of naughty words seemed to sort out the resolve for the 450m event and we improved as the day went on.
The final had a familiar feel... Amathus, Batchworth, Thames... but despite the verbal onslaught just before the start and a massive effort by one and all it just wasn't quite enough to overhaul Amathus who had been really motoring all day - 0.7 seconds separated all three crews, conveniently finishing in lane order.
Congratulations to both Amathus and Thames for a hard fought final and well done to Amathus for yet again fielding three boat loads of paddlers - it's been a while since we managed to get two boats out let alone three!
That's now the top three places in the premier league sorted but there's still a battle for 4th and 5th as Kingston are holding ground at fourth after a win in an equally close minor final race - can they hold off Henley at Peterborough...
WAM have made it to the top of the standard league but there's only a point in it. Can they muster the troops for a final assault at Peterborough or will Amathus Bees get one up on their premier crew mates and win the league?
The Worcester results can be found here and we may have a report in due course.
